Checkout configuration help

After checking out a product and clicking 'go to checkout' customers are asked to either login or enter there details to create a new account with an email address and password.

I would like to remove creating an account as a requirement as i think this will put customers off and slow the whole purchasing process down. Is there anyway i can set it so that customers have the option of either creating an account or purchasing an item as a one off. I.e i want to remove the red asterisk's next to: email, password, and confirm password.

As well as removing this requirment i would like to include some text alongside the option to create an account, offering the option to register due to faster purchases in the future rather than demanding it.

I hope someone can help me out with this, any questions let me know.
Ciaran.

Re: Checkout configuration help

COWOA (Checkout Without Account) is what you're after, although the email address is (naturally) still required.

Re: Checkout configuration help

Backup your site files and your db

Rename all the YOUR TEMPLATE folders to match your custom template name.
(In both the includes folder and the overrides-writes folder).

Upload the includes folder.

Upload the folders inside the overrides-writes folder.
(First check to make sure are not already overriding any of these files. If so, merge them together).

Install the SQL patch.

In Admin, make sure you are using the split-login format.

That's it.

Re: Checkout configuration help

Start here:

https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=142

The creating of folders is most easily done using an FTP client like Filezilla.

Once you have your new template and override folders created, go through the folders in the COWOA mod and rename all the folders named YOUR_TEMPLATE to whatever name you gave your override folders.

includes
/templates
/CUSTOM
/common
/css
stylesheet.css
/images
/sideboxes
/templates
template_info.php

then it says to Upload your /CUSTOM folder to your server. How do i do this?

and then whats next after uploading this.
'Upload the includes folder.
then
Upload the folders inside the overrides-writes folder.
(First check to make sure are not already overriding any of these files. If so, merge them together).' could you explain this in a little more detail, im not sure what you mean still sorry.

Any help is greatly appreciated, i really want customers to be able to purchase without creating an account.
Thanks so far
Ciaran.

Did you create this file structure offline? If so, upload the files to your server. If not, ignore that statement.

To check that it's worked, in admin, go to Tools > Template Selection and your new template should appear. Then select it.

Re: Checkout configuration help

I created that folder online, but i checked Tools > Template Selection and it doesnt show up. anyone know what ive done wrong? the folder is located at 121music.co.uk/includes/templates.

Does my new template have to contain all the information of the one i currently use, called 'jsweb' or do i only need to include the relevant checkout pages stuff?

also, before i go any further, could someone expalin how i backup my database and store properly?

Re: Checkout configuration help

It sounds like you may already have a custom template, in which case, you don't need to create another one.

To backup your site files, just download all your Zen Cart files to your computer.

To backup your database, you can either go directly to phpMyAdmin:
https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=103
or
use this add-on:

template_info.php is a key file here. Take a look at it and make sure you understand what it does.

Re: Checkout configuration help

Thanks for all the replies so far, but I still havent managed to get this mod installed. ive read over everything thats been said and am still lost.

STEP 1 - Go through all directories and change all "YOUR TEMPLATE" directory names to the name of your actual template.

i have 3 templets installed accoring to my admin template selection area, Classic Contemporary Green, Jsweb Template, and Default Template, the one i use at the minuite and want to continue using is the jsweb one. So what exaclty do i need to rename and change?

STEP 2 - Upload the includes directory to your zen cart directory. For most FTP clients the directory structure of the /includes directory should be preserved, and the files should "fall" into their proper places. If your FTP client isn't capable of this, you might have to manually place each file according to where they appear in this mod.

How do i upload the includes dircetory to my zen cart directory? what even is my zen cart directory?

STEP 3 - Eleven default files are over-ridden for this mod(FOUND IN OVERWRITES-RIDES FOLDER):
/includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/login.php
/includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/logoff.php
/includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/checkout_confirmation.php
/includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/checkout_payment.php
/includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/checkout_shipping.php
/includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/gv_redeem.php
/includes/modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE/create_account.php
/includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates/tpl_login_default.php
/includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates/tpl_checkout_success_default.php
/includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates/tpl_checkout_payment_default.php
/includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/tpl_header.php

Five stock Zen files are over-written for this mod(FOUND IN OVERWRITES-RIDES FOLDER):

/admin/orders.php
/includes/classes/order.php
/includes/modules/pages/gv_redeem/header_php.php
/includes/modules/pages/password_forgotten/header_php.php
/includes/modules/pages/login/header_php.php

The new files are in the overrides-writes directory. If you are not currently overriding these files, you may install them as you did the ones above. If you are already overriding these files, read overrides-writes.txt. Be sure to backup your current /includes/classes/order.php before overwriting or editing it.

where and how do i override these files?

im sorry for asking so much, but i really want this mod on my site and am struggling to make any sense of it. I hope someone can help.

Re: Checkout configuration help

OK.

1. Unzip the mod zip file on your local computer and go through the folders contained in the includes folder contained therein, changing every folder named YOUR_TEMPLATE to jsweb. Assuming that the override folders for that template are named 'jsweb'.

2. Then fire up your FTP client, and drag that includes folder over to the root directory of your Zencart installation. That will place all the files inside the mod in the proper places.

3. The last paragraph refers to the possibilty that you may have already created files in your override directories that are the same as the files this mod creates, causing a conflict. If, when you're uploading the includes folder, your FTP client asks you if you want to write over a file, this is probably the case and you'll need to read the text file specified.

All this stuff is easier than it seems right now, but you'll need to know these basics to go much further with your store, so keep at it.

Re: Checkout configuration help

Ok great, finally making some progress, ive changed all the folder names to jsweb, but when i try dragging the includes folder over to webshell4 it doesnt upload it. I tried uploading it myself but hitting the upload button at the top but it doesnt let me upload the entire folder only single files. What should i do or what am i doing wrong?

Re: Checkout configuration help

If webshell4 is the file manager on your hosting account, I'd also recommend installing Filezilla. Works every time.

Re: Checkout configuration help

ok making more progress, ive dragged the entire includes folder from the unzipped file to 'file://1to1music.co.uk' (is this the root directory?) Now what? do i still have to over-ride all those files or is that it finished?

Re: Checkout configuration help

I'm not sure. It probably shouldn't say file:// - with most shared hosting, your root directory will be public_html in the FTP folder list.

When I enter 121music.co.uk into my browser, I end up at a link farm. Is this Zencart installation actually hosted somewhere? Who's your host?
