Permanent Cart - How does this work?

I am glad to hear that items remain in stock until actually purchased. However, I'd like to know if there is a way to actually disable the permanent cart function. All my items are one of a kind as I am selling off a collection. I don't want customers to think they can save the item in their cart for weeks and come back disgruntled that someone else has bought it.

Do you know of a way to disable it?

You can do that in v2.0.0:

Handling Stored Shopping Cart on Login
When a customer logs in and has a previously stored shopping cart, do you want to Restore the cart contents, or Erase it?

restore = retrieve previous abandoned shopping cart
erase = delete any prior shopping history

Is that version 2.0.0 of a special mod? I can't find that option in the admin. (I'm using zen ver. 1.3.7) Do you know if there is a file I could alter in the site folder?

Oh, thanks. I'm a little intimidated by the thought of upgrading my zen cart. When I first began this venture, I read a lot of things about people having serious problems when they upgraded With my limited knowledge of programming, I'm afraid I would lose all the formatting I've worked so hard on. I haven't had time to read fully the tutorials on upgrading, but I guess that will be my project when the time comes.

Is it possible to have quick fix to delete the stored cart contents pertaining to the previous session in ZC1.3.8a. I have searched the forum but I could not find a solution for this.

Combining cart contents becomes an issue particularly for retail & wholesale carts using dual pricing mod. In which the trade customers are first required to login to see wholesale prices and to shop. If a member customer leaves the session with items stored in the cart on their next return the cart contents from the previous visit are added without a notice.
