We had come to the decision to use Zen Cart for a new ecommerce website for a customer, but I've been reading the issues regarding security and using a virtual terminal to process orders rather than sending the credit card info directly to the gateway.
The company's product is bulky and often "oversize" for UPS depending on the number of items ordered so true shipping costs can be much higher than what the UPS module calculates. (Order 1 and the shipping is correct, order 2, or a combination of items, and the box becomes "oversize.") The company has been using an older "html" shopping cart (not database) that encrypts the order and cc information and sends it via email to the company. The encrypted orders are stored on the server temporarly but deleted off daily after the the order has been decrypted. In that way, the customer can decide if he wants to go ahead with an order at a higher price before the cc is processed. There can also be delays in shipping so the company doesn't want to process the cc until the order is ready to ship.
Is there anyway to do that using Zen Cart? I realize online customer history would be lost, but the customer info would still be there and the history would be in the accounting program.
Or, is it possible to configure Zen Cart to handle the shipping variables and a delayed shipping date? The company and I really like what we see in Zen Cart, but just want to cover all the bases.
Hope I haven't violated a "length" rule, but the above tells the whole story. Any help would be appreciated.
