Help in understanding 'Layout Boxes Controller'

Hi all

I am slowly getting to grips with customising Zen-Cart but one thing is making my head go around in circles is that of the 'Layout Boxes Controller'.

Could someone please explain to me how the options within work, especially sorting. I understand that I can have a 'left column', a 'Right column' and even have both columns being displayed on a web page. I'm not too sure where the concept of a 'Single column' comes in.

For the most part simply ignore the Single Column option as the only thing that uses it at the moment is the Search that is in the header section.

Sort order just determines the position in the column of the boxes - the lower the number the higher on the page the box is.

thanks for posting this. i switched all the single columns off and put my left and rights in order where i wanted them, but some are not showing up.

i have chosen to view manufacturers in a list and turned off the reviews, but it won't change. what up? any help greatly appreciated.

Some of the boxes are "auto-magic" and they only show on certain pages or under certain circumstances.

ahhh. so if i don't have any 'labels' or products in there yet, those boxes won't show. how very sneaky.
