Downloads - "was: +£0.00 now is: Free"

Just set up a free downloadable product. All seems to work OK except in the product page, next to the attribute select radio buttons is the text "was: +£0.00 now is: Free".
Where can I switch that off?

I was in that thread that got you sorted but didn't do it for me. Any chance of a bit extra info?

Did you alter the code in attributes.php (if so what alteration) or did you replace code in attributes.php with the code from the thread?

Then, once altered, where does the new attributes.php file need to be stored to override the original file?

Any help appreciated.
