PHP issue with Godaddy

After days of setting up a forum (a task in itself), now a Zen Cart (heck of a learning curve and configuration), I have just found out that:

PHP allow_url_fopen must be enabled which is required in Paypal Payments Standard setup

However on my Godaddy shared hosting modifying the PHP core is not accessible by the user, and the allow_url is set to off.

I have Express, standard, and Pro all enable, all fields properly populated, all Paypal settings gone over twice with their support, still if you press Express button, nothing happens, wheel spins on Mac forever, must back out.

I just got a virtual dedicated from Godaddy for one month to experiment, in case that is a last resort, as I want to offer only Express and pro.

How much of a hassle is it dragging the completely configured Zen cart from one hosting to another, or rather, is is a complete starting from scratch process? Not a big deal, I have only entered test products, just curious.

Any suggestions?

The tutorials/FAQ section has complete instructions for changing from one host to another - a move that would be highly recommended in your situation - Search the forum for your hosting for many other user experiences.

In the directory root, change the php.ini file allow_url to on.

I just switched several of my sites from one host (godaddy) to a new host (PimaHost) and the move was PAINLESS and fast!!

Purists may say that allow_url_fopen is not actually required, and I would probably tend to agree in principle.

In fact, your problem, as far as Express Checkout or Website Payments Pro is concerned is more likely that GoDaddy uses a (dumb, in my opinion, but that's not the issue here) proxy in order for CURL communications to happen from your server to other servers.
