Multiply by attribute

My goal is to set up a custom cable assembly cart.

I found Zen cart already had the rope selling example (sell by length), which lets the customers fill their desired length in the cart quantity box, rather than in an attribute box to calculate price per length. However, this will be a problem when my customers want to buy several pieces of the same length cables.

In terms of the custom, the pre-defined selection options will not work either because my customer would be able to choose every inches of their desired cable lengths in a text box, and that will be used as a multiplier of price per length.

How would I achieve this goal with Zen-cart? Thanks.

From your explanation I think you need "dependant" attributes and Zen Cart and any Opensource that I am aare of does not have support for this.

You might re-think this and make 1-? attributes along this line

base cable up to 1 ft

Attributes:
1-5 ft = $?
5-10 ft = $?
10-15 ft = $?
15-20 ft = $?
etc
