Complicated Shipping Setup Via Attributes Selection

Hi everybody

My first post here, I've been reading through other topics to help me get my first Zen site setup. This is a great resource!

I have a question about how to set up my shipping though, I am praying that it is going to be do-able, and would really appreciate some help/advice please.

I am based in the UK and plan to offer free shipping worldwide on all of my products. I am selling a product which is available in different sizes. I can afford to absorb the shipping costs for most sizes globally. I have set up my first product for example with the following for the 'Size' attributes



Sizes 1 to 4 for example are small and easy to ship anywhere globally at a low cost. For these I will provide free shipping no matter where the customer is based.

Sizes 5 & 6 are bigger and will be more expensive to ship. Within the UK this is still OK for free shipping as the actual costs are reasonably low. However, for different regions of the world the weight/size of these two products makes it impossible to provide free shipping.

In addition to the UK, I would need 3 additional shipping 'regions' to be specified - Europe, USA/Canada and the 'Rest of The World'.

Is there a way of setting this up?? As I say, I am new to Zen and am making good progress on my site with a lot of help but to be honest have not got a clue if this is possible.

Any advice/help would of course be extremely welcome!!! (and hugely appreciated )

Is that a per unit charge on the products?

Yes, you are right - it is per unit. So if a US based customer ordered a qty of 3x Size 6 they would be charged £60 for shipping (£20 three times). If they then ordered 1x Size 5 it would be an extra £15 for shipping. Any amount of Size 1, 2, 3 or 4 = free shipping (these are smaller/lighter and cheaper for me to send)

Could you use the Per Unit perweightunit shipping module and clone that?

Set up one for each Zone and change the Unit amount from 1.00 to 2.00 to 3.00 then set the Maximum Weight shipped to 5000 and then set the Product Weight to the amount to charge for the 1.00 rate and the others will change proportionately to that ...

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it. I have had a look at the Per Unit shipping module, but I understood it that this works with products, not product attributes.

The list I have pasted in my original post is one product, but different sizes available from a 'Size' attribute drop down list.

The product that I am selling is artwork, and the size attribute is to enable customers to identify which size they want to order. Ordering a bigger size increases the cost of the product to the customer and also costs me more in shipping. To make it feasible to ship overseas I need to recoup a high proportion of the actual shipping cost.

Am I right that the 'per unit' module is for applying to products rather than attributes?

Or... do you mean to change the weight of the attribute via the attribute contoller? I have been going 'round in circles and to be honest it's all becoming a bit confusing - lol.

Would this work to change the shipping cost for each attribute as per my table??

Per Unit perweightunit works with weight ... and that includes Product weight and/or Attribute weight ...
