Default Re: Default text in dropdown attributes

Color me dense, but it took me a minute to understand what the post stevesh referenced was trying to say, so I thought I'd bump this to give (hopefully better) detailed instructions on how I solved this:

    1. I add an attribute value to each one of my dropdown list type attributes called "[Select One]". (You can use what every value you like)
    2. Every time I add these attributes to a product, I include this new attribute value.
    3. When adding this attribute value, I set the sort order = 1 (so it always appears as the first value in my drop down lists).
    4. Then I set the "Used For Display Purposes Only:" and "Default Attribute to be Marked Selected:" as "Yes".

    Here's the result:

    1. "[Select One]" will appear first the attribute dropdown lists
    2. Visitors cannot "accidentally" choose the "[Select One]" option. (System will display an error letting them know that the option they chose is not a valid product attribute)
    3. Visitors cannot add the item to their cart without selecting a valid product attribute
