price determined shipping vs. weight/method determined

OK, so I hope someone out there can help me. I'm sure I'm not the only one to come across this.

I have several items that can go common carrier (UPS, FedEx, etc.) & due to the fact they ship from different warehouses throughout the US I charge shipping based on Pricing. IE $1-$10 = $3 shipping, $10.01 - $25 = $7, etc. Just standard table pricing... This works great until I have a heavy item that isn't very expensive or that is too heavy for the price..... IE: for $400 I'm charging $20 shipping in table, well this item could weigh 5# or 100# and might not got common carrier. What I need to do is be able to determine a higher shipping charge for those specific items.

Does anybody know how to do this?

What happens when there is a mixed cart of Products?

Well if the items are charged correctly (shipping calculated per item) than the sum would be the total shipping charge.
