Default USPS Shipping Module and Attributes

Four days since my first install and I am still trying to tweak this Zen Cart. Big learning curve with php.

I also purchased the ebook to resolve this issue but they don't discuss U.S.P.S. Shipping Module.

I am selling 1 product which has 5 attributes. (Indiv pack, 1/2 case, 1 case, 5 lbs and 10lbs). The indiv pack weighs 2lbs.

I have tried to add the basic weight to the product of 2lbs and I've tried to add weight to the individual attributes.

When both the product and attribute weight is left at 0, the USPS calculator works and gives me the following:

    Available Shipping Methods Rates
    United States Postal Service (0.10lbs) (Priority Mail (2 - 3 days)) $4.80

When either the product or the attribute or both are annotated with a weight, I receive this:

    Available Shipping Methods Rates
    United States Postal Service (0.00lbs) (Priority Mail (2 - 3 days)) $0.00

I have searched though the FAQs, Tutorials, ebook, and Forum and cannot find an answer to my dilemma.

    Will anyone help?

    Dave

You should have a weight and price of zero in the product (Catalog >> Categories/Products) that reflects the fact the item weight is based on the option chosen.

"Please Select..." is you Default and Display Only option.
    Then:
    • Individual Pack
    • Half Case
    • Case
    • etc.
Each of these options would have the price and weight listed in the Attributes Controller.

Result is that the price and weight will be correct for whichever option is chosen.

Without the "Please Select...", the customer can select the product without actually choosing an option. This forces them to choose.

    dbltoe,

My product is, "priced by attribute"

    Priced by Attributes:
    -Yes No
*Display price will include lowest group attributes prices plus price

Here is the link to the site maybe that will help:

There's an inherit problem with using radio buttons versus drop down. There is no way to force the customer to choose a selection.

Ajeh's advice from long ago...."If there are choices, you can't let them order without making a choice."

I originally had, "Dropdown Boxes", then I changed them to radio boxes. I have now changed them back and they still aren't working.

Still no Please Choose as the first option. See the image of the attribute controller.

Next, you will need to adjust the price and weight in the product itself to make it happen.

I can see why you might go blind with that image!

You have to add it as a value under the attribute name.

hmmmm, I guess not your box is full.

you said, "you have to add it as a value under the attribute name."

I am confused with the term, "attribute name" Can you elaborate more?

Maybe I have done this whole thing completely wrong.

    Thanks,

    Dave
