Problem Transitioning from Shipping to Payment

I've got a fresh install of 1.3.8a. When I try to test a transaction on the basic check out I get a blank page when trying to go from the shipping page to the payment page. The shipping page just loads again blank.

Trying to go from here

in the checkout process yields a blank page with checkout_shipping in the address bar of the browser.

I tried the debugging tool but it didn't provide a log. It's like the page just fails with no error or crashing it just won't load. If I manually type in word payment over the word shipping in the address bar the page loads. It comes up fine with the correct shipping and everything, but it's supposed to be automated. Can't expect customers to do that.

I read a similar posting and used their suggestions by reloading english.php and functions_general.php but it didn't do anything. I've already keyed in quite a few products and text editing. I wouldn't want to lose all that by having to reload the cart only to find a similar problem.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like either an error in payment module(s) or a bad load on the files ...

You might want to check the files on the server ...

You have used the Classic Template vs making your own custom template and that means reloading files will overwrite all of your customization ...

You might take some time to setup your templates and overrides correctly and once that is working right then reload all of the files to see if you have bad ones on the server if you are not sure how to check the files to see which one(s) are bad ...
