Really basic question.......

Hello all, I know it's very obvious that I am a really new at this and will probably embarass myself with this question, but here goes.

When setting up an online store, do I need a seperate "Web Site Builder" or does the shopping cart cover it all - like company profile, FAQS, information, etc.?? I have Web Easy (don't laugh) software, but don't want to have to struggle with learning it if I don't need to. Or would it be of any benefit at all as a supplement to ZenCart?

I feel like the guy in the 70's TV series who was given a "Super Hero" suit with no instructions - slammed into a lot of brick walls and such trying to figure it out ....... well, you had to be there.

I remember The Greatest American Hero. My cousin had just gone into teaching and loved that show (the main character was a teacher).

Anyway, most of the look of Zen Cart is controlled by the stylesheet (css). The tools you really need are a good text editor like Notepad++ or Crimson Editor and an FTP client like FileZilla or SmartFTP. All are free downloads from the net.

Another great tool is the Firefox browser with the web developer addon which allows you to tinker with the stylesheet and see the changes immediately. You have to save the changes separately and then FTP them to the site to make them permanent. Firefox is also a free download.

I find the easiest way to work on Zen Cart is to have a copy unzipped on my local computer and do my editing there. I then upload (FTP) the changes to the website.

Zen Cart doesn't automatically have a company profile or FAQ page; it does have shipping info, privacy policy, contact us, and some other pages built in. You can download a mod for an About Us page from this site, and use that as a model for making other custom pages, or you can create an unlimited number of "ez-pages" which can contain any info you want.
