Posting order info to PDF?

Can anyone give me any direction on inserting the invoice values into a pdf? i read up a bit and apprently this is done through php... any info would be great.

The reason im asking is that my boss wants our invoices from zen cart to be postable to one of our pdf order forms at the click of a button to save time within the company. Currently when we get a web order we still have to transcribe it to a printed out version of our PDF order form before we add it to our records. Given the volume of orders we do this eats up time :S
