customizing the header: images and links ?

hopefully this is in the right forum, if not please direct me.

i'm working on re-working my Zen Cart store, and my end goal will be something like this:

right now I'm a little confused by what I will need to do to create a custom header that includes the links (and images for them) that I need.

I'm pretty well versed in CSS and HTML, and have some PHP experience as well, but I need to be pointed in the right direction.

any ideas?

It seems like the link quoted above might be the only relevant one (I'm either already familiar with or have implemented the others )

I think what I'm trying to accomplish is to add as many links to the header section as I desire, and arrange them in a way that works with the design elements I'm working with.

Can this be done using the method above, or will I need to do some more serious tweaking to achieve that?

Sorry if this is coming off as obtuse, most of the examples I have seen don't really seem to resemble the look I'm going for.

Can add as many as you have space for and possibly in new div's to allow css tweaking
