Help with Meta Tags - Basics

Ok ive read through all the posts i can find, and i still dont have a clue as how to change the meta tags.
I dont remember what i did last time
They all say go to languages/english/your_template/meta_tags.php, but since i use a standart template, that would be in languages/english/meta_tags.php i take it?

And in there, all i can change is the title and tagline.

Can someone please help me

Ok ive tried updating the meta_tag.php file and the html_header file, and nothing changes

Change whatever i need to change, upload, overwrite the file and NOTHING.
This is giving me a major headache now.

Please can someone help me before my head explodes?

And yes i have read all the other posts in here and done what it says, but with no luck so far.

Sorry, your posts give insufficient clues about what really is or isn't happening.

You said you've updated some files, and then "NOTHING".
If I look up "nothing" in the dictionary, it says "not anything; no single thing; zero; not at all; informally used to contradict something emphatically"
The crystal ball is a little unclear ... do you mean your website now does "nothing"? as in a blank page?
Or do you mean that when you told it to upload and overwrite files "nothing" happened and the upload failed?
Or do you mean the metatags info didn't suddenly change over on Google?
Or do you mean your website now has no metatags?

But, even more basic than using an FTP program or even editing files, there are some other important fundamental questions unanswered in your posts:

You also haven't indicated *which* metatags you're trying to change. Are they related to something on your home page? or a specific product page? or something else?
And, what information *is* it showing? vs what do you *want* it to show?

And what version of Zen Cart are you using?
Was it an upgrade from an earlier version at some point? which version(s)?
What addons have been installed?
What is the URL where the problems you've suggested could be witnessed first-hand?


As you can see, it helps to supply the details of the problem and not just the symptoms or the problems you're having using your editor or ftp tools.

Ive discovered that doing this in the middle of the night is a very bad idea, cos it makes you do stupid mistakes.

I was trying to update the general meta tags for the site, and the reason i couldnt get it to work...was because i uploaded the %&¤# files to the wrong folder.

I got 2 sites using zencart and i uploaded 1 set of files to the wrong folder

Ill stick to daytime work.
