unique products remove buy now button once added to cart

hi i have just setup a gift card purchasing website.

each product is unique and i have made each card max:1 not to allow more than one of the same item to be added to the cart.

my products are set in an all products listing view with buy now buttons.

i wanted to get a script that can change the buy now button to an item added to cart button once the item has been placed in the shopping cart.

anybody know how this is possible?

Check settings in admin > config > stock

in that configuration stock menu it only allows you to change the button to sold out once the product is actually sold out. that only happens afeter he places the order.

what i want is that after a person places an item into the cart and before he pays for it he continues shopping - he should not see the buy now button for the item that he has already placed in his cart.

i would imagine that there are two ways to rectify this.

either have the buy now button removed once an item is placed in the cart even before checkout

or have the item removed from that persons screen once the item is places in the cart.

i would imagine the first method is easier but it still needs scripting an editing the php file which im not sure how to do and which file needs editing.

It is not subtracted until after the purchase

As many times a cart will be abandoned with several items in it

i know that. my intention is not to subtract it from stock. my intention is to just change the button for that customer once he has added the product into his cart.

since they are unique products if he continues shopping and still sees a buy now on the products he bought it would be confusing.
