Shipping rate by postal code

Hey folks -
I found a module a while back that allows Americans to set a flat shipping rate via ZipCode, but as I am in Canada - I had difficultly porting it over to postal codes and have found that I can't just list the first 3 digits, but have to list all 6 digits PLUS the space or else it won't work. And given that there is a good 300-500 digits for one 20km+- area, it makes it VERY time consuming to do, not to mention, anyone who forgets to put spaces in the postal code won't get a quote.

Any suggestions on a module, or how to adapt a module to read only the first 3 digits of the postal code? Or would it be possible to split the postal code into two boxes during account creation and have the zip code based module just read off the first set?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I have been using the Canada Post Shipping Module without any problems. I have found that the shipping varies in Canada greatly. I personally would let the module figure out the shipping costs - it is free so let it do the work for you. I had tried to set a flat rate shipping by province, but that didn't work too well as I had lost more in shipping costs than I gained.

I have the CP module installed, I just need something that will work for local deliveries via a private carrier with a flat rate based on postal code.

man, if you had the link for flat rate shipping based on zip code for USA it sure would make my life easier...

Does the Canada Post module need to listen to inbound traffic on port 30000? As I am hosting the site on a shared hosting server, the hosting company said it wasn't allowed as per their term and regulations.
