DrByte:
When following the installation instructions, they will tell you to create the configure.php files and make them writable. (It doesn't matter what's in them, they'll be overwritten, but must exist before the installer can do its thing.) Then the installer will walk you through the various screens of information and assemble the correct contents for the files, and write out the settings to the files. Then you can mark them read-only again.
Using this method, which is recommended, means you don't have to figure out what settings to put in the files.
Thanks Dr Byte, thats cleared up that question, just as installing on my local host.
My web hosts have noticed that some files are missing. All directories are there, but many files are not.
However I have uploaded the zipped file to the server, and unzipped it with their program,so which way is it most likely to be corrupted ? Assuming the zipped file reaches the server intact, would it be their unzip program causing the problem???
I will manually compare server files to those on my desktop. But interesting to try and find where the fault is.
