Automotive add-on supporting Make, Model, and Year

Has anybody successfully used ZC for a automotive site? I need to be able to add items supporting year, make, and model as attributes. Plus, I need to be able to see what items are in stock that meet this criteria. A drop down sidebox would be preferred.

If I did this by hand, it would take forever. Then adding a item that worked on multiple makes AND years would be too much to bear. And stock would be all wrong.

Might be best just to use product categories for make, model and year, and use linked products for products that span multiple years.

i want to do exactly the same thing.
would be great if you can tell me where to find that info , or even if it is a commercial addin i will buy it.

Short answer "no".

I looked at sourceforge, oscommerce, osCMax, and everywhere else. I could not find a ready to go"category, subcategory drop down menu" like the one in the example. The right way to do it would be to write it myself. What I would want it to do is have the catagory menu to query the zencart item db. Then have those results put into a separate DB. The sub category drop down would query the new filtered db.

I gave up on that.

Since make and model will not change "other than adding new models", the easy solution would be to make a page "flash based as an example since I know flash" That does a cool menu sorting make and model. At least with flash I can make the page look as pretty and cool as I want. Then just have the "open press event" for the model text layer in the flash file link to the address for the subcategory menu in the cart. Making flash movies is alot easier for me than doing the DB queries. So I would be Ok with the trade off.

I made the executive decision to not do the work for this client, but if it was for me I would do it the flash way in a heart beat. Unless the "right" menu was available.

Searching by attribute is easy enough, the more complicated thing tho not impossible is to have dependent attributes
