Adding a Field to the Order Confirmation

I would like to add a phone number field to the order confirmation email which will send the customer their phone number along with the other information listed.

It is not very crucial as to where this number shows up on the confirmation just so long as it is there.

Any information anyone could give me to get started would be wonderful.

Do you mean you want to send the customer his own phone number in the confirmation email?

Without sounding completely insane, yes. We have the customers register their warranty as a free purchase before they mail in their broken or defective device and mail the confirmation with it (for various reasons which are not really worth stating). Once the warranty enter our facility it goes straight to the warranty department with the print out of the confirmation. By having the confirmation include the phone number the warrant department would not have to break from troubleshooting to find the number and call the customer with questions.
