Images not showing up on new products

The images are showing for products that already had images. They are not showing for products that did not have images before or that I just added.

It doesn't matter whether I upload the image via ftp or via admin, or even use an image already on the server.

Any ideas?

I just uploaded the image for the above product (the one the link takes you to) as a category image and it works that way, just not as a product image.

If uploading to /images (main) make sure that this is the selected path when defining a new product for the image and the location of it

When you enter/edit a product at the bottom where you specify an image there is a "Upload to directory:" and a drop box next to it - "Main Directory" should be selected for these images to be in /images dir

No, it's not. I was just explaining what I had already done. I haven't changed anything since my original post.

I can't imagine what I might be doing wrong. It has been several months since I added new product images so it's understandable that I could have forgotten something, but what? Everything looks right! I also reviewed several tutorials on images.

Try a test product and usae the "Browse" feature for the image to a file on your local and that the drop box indicates "Main Directory" and complete the preview & update.

This should upload the image to the main (/images) directory and be displayed on your frontend

So this time it works. I tried it using "browse" and using an existing image on the server. Both work. It *would* be nice to know why so I can avoid this problem in the future!

Another strange thing is that when I upload an image using browse or copy it via ftp and then find it, the file permissions are incorrect and my ftp program won't let me change them (even though I can change the permissions on other files). In order to get the file permissions right I have to copy the image via ftp, then upload it through browse. I thought this might have something to do with my original problem at first, but then when I found out the image would work for a category I didn't know what to think!
