Default Setting up images for categories?

I want to Remove the name of my subcategories on the main page and replace it with a clickable image. Is their anyway to do this without the sub category name dissapearing in your admin control panel?

Link to page showing the issue:

This is the Problem in admin panel:

Id like the sub category to be displayed like in the first link but have the sub-cat name still displayed in admin panel. Id just like to be able to show an iamge instead of a name. usually i wouldnt mind but someone is taking over this shopping cart when im gone and id like it to be as simple as possible for them (i.e no blank category name sin admin panel with just numbers.)

The admin area is the oldest legacy code out of all the code for this script....
In their wisdom, the Dev's have placed emphasis on tuning/changing the frontend code and underlying code to keep things fast and a bit simpler to work with doint this type of thing in the admin area is not as straight forward as it is in the frontend and maybe another has a quick solution???

i think i'm after the same thing - i'd like the categories to just show an image link - i have put the name below the image within the jpg file, so don't want to have the same text sitting below it as well.

i have trawled around the stylesheet.css, and through the admin area, but can't see anything obvious (or not for that matter).

the only workaround i can think of is changing the text colour to match the background to make it invisible, but i don't know where to go in the stylesheet to do this...

    anyone have an idea, please?
