Paypal IPN Checkout & GV Error

I did that and tested it again.

It seems like the error occurs when you click to return to the site after payment rather than wait for it to redirect you (from paypal).

You know how after you make your payment, it says "if you are not redirected within 10 seconds, click here" ?

Well, if you wait the 10 seconds, you are directed to the checout_success page like it should do. But if you click to go back (for those who are impatient) that's when they get sent back to the checkout_payment page with the nasty red message.

Any idea why those who are "clicking" to go back after their order are being redirected to the checkout_payment page?

Is the whole balance covered by the Gift Certificate or only part of it?

They are redeeming the full amount of the GC, but it only covers part of the total cost (partial payment is still due).

When/if the whole amount is covered by the GC, they don't make their way to paypal, they go right to my checkout_success page.

We have managed to reproduce this on 1 test server. However on another test server it never happens.

The main problem, is that it is intermittent. Even on the test server where the problem occurs, it does not happen for every transaction.

We are still testing.

I have just signed up to the forum as I also have exactly this gv/paypal issue with a brand new store installation.

The slight possible variation I have is that I have 'account creation optional' in paypal so it doesn't auto return after completing payment but gives the option to create an account. Return to site is a click button option - click the button and it goes back to the warning message as described in this thread (when part payment by gv has been made).

Just to lay that out fully:

order without gv: go to paypal, enter card details, complete transaction, don't register for account, click return to site, get back to the thank you page

order with part payment by gv: go to paypal, enter card details, complete transaction, don't register for account, click return to site, get the step 2 red banner

I haven't made any modifications other than to appearance and haven't added any modules

And I have "auto return" set to "on" and it's still giving me this message (so it can't be that).

I've even had it tested out where they wait the 10 seconds to be returned automatically, and also to "click here" to be returned if they don't want to wait.

BOTH options are sending them pack to page 2 with the error message.
