Hopefully I am posting this in an appropriate place. I am using the current version of zen cart and testing on a local install.

I would like for folks to be able to special order "out of stock" items and have those items added to their cart, but for them to know clearly that they are placing a special order for that item. I would like for this to apply to only some of my items.

One possible solution might be to have the "add to cart" button image be replaced with a "special order" image when the stock level is zero. It would also be nice for a message to appear in the cart, but this is not necessary. I'm guessing that this would be a not too huge php programming change. However, I am self taught and tend to flail about until I happen upon a solution. Does anyone have an idea of specifically what code I would need to affect this change or just any suggestions?

Additionally, I'd like to have 2 product categories; one where sold out items cannot be added to the cart or at least as marked sold out in the cart (for unique handmade stuff) and a second where special orders occur as above. This seems to require an additional option on the product categories page. Any ideas?
