Need help with DB restore

I need to restore my db.

A while back I tried installing the simple URL mod, including the sql patch, and subsequently removed it. I don't think I had removed the sql tables that may have been added.

yesterday, i thought i'd have another go at it since I needed the URL to be friendly in order for Moneris to connect to the site.

This time, i did a db backup. installed all 3 required modules, ran into errors for which there has been no help forthcoming, and have subsequently removed them.

the first thing I need to do, is import the current backup, then i need to ensure that any extra tables that were created from my previous attempt are removed.

NOTE:
I have installed the newsletter mod and the moneris eselect mod (oscomm conversion)

I'm not very comfortable with db and would not recognize what has been added from what should be there.

Is there anyway you can walk me through the process or perhaps lend a hand?

the server is running cpanel on a linux server with phpMyAdmin.

any help would be much appreciated.

took a crash course on db, got the extra tables etc, removed.
