Using Google Apps mail problems

Yahoo decided to randomly bounce emails from my server so I switched to Google as a work-around. I successfully configured my email client so I know everything on their end is working but I'm unable to get Zen Cart to use Google.

I've searched the boards and found someone post that they had the following work;

In the Email Options I currently have the settings;
* SMTP Email Account Mailbox - [email protected]
* SMTP Email Account Password - ****
* SMTP Email Mail Host - smtp.gmail.com
* SMTP Email Mail Server Port - 465

followed by;
I had changed 'Email Transport Method' to SMTP, from PHP.
Upon changing this back, all is right in the world again.

I don't have the PHP option and I'm getting nowhere. I tried smtp & smtpauth with no luck. When I send an email to my test account, everything looks fine but I never receive anything.

I'm pretty lost here and any help from someone that is using Gmail would be greatly appreciated

GMail has always been quirky, with only a limited amount of success in using it, mostly because a lot of hosting servers don't have the TLS support. Some tips are here: http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.p...Email_Problems

What version of Zen Cart are you using?

Thank you for the quick reply! I thought I had done a good job of searching but that link is new to me. I'll forward it to my son/webhost.

Most of the posts I ran across earlier mentioned Gmail and I'm nor sure if the setup for that is different than Google Apps.

I'm using 1.3.5 and do not have the option of selecting PHP in my admin settings in ZC.

Basic support for GMail was attempted in v1.3.8. Prior versions will not have much success using gmail as the mailserver.
