    Default Attributes Clarification

    Hi all

I was hoping someone could help:

I have spent 3 days trying to setting up a simple attribute; have read all forums, FAQs etc that I have found; tried to re-do about a dozen times, and still get errors.

    This is my understanding:
    1. via Option Name Manager - set up a new attribute, and select type (eg drop down box). Add comments in comments field
    2. via option Value Manager, go thru & set up my option values, as required
    3. go & link attribute to product ; select category, select product - hit display; choose option name & option value...insert; repeat as required....

ok - so then I proceeded to "preview" function (within the attribute controller) ....have a nice box with:

    "Please Choose" at the top,
the drop down box with the options
and - the comments as previously inputted.....(all good)

    here is my confusion:

I try to complete the process by hitting "insert" in the attribute controller screen and get this error:
"Attribute Option and Option Value Do NOT Match - Attribute was not added - : TEXT

Please bear in mind that I have only created one attribute to choose from in the option name manager....
...so, I'm not sure what does not match?

when I look at my site, I just see a lone drop down box (with its options) just floating with no text at all around it (not even the "Please Choose")

Am I doing something blatantly stupid?
I am so sorry to waste people's time - but, I do hope that someone can point me in the right direction , as I am tearing my hair out.

Again, many apologies if I am overlooking "the obvious"

    Many many thanks in advance

When you are adding attributes you need to select both option name and also option value to add to product

Go to Option Name Manager ...

You have added an Option Name, what is the Option Type that you added to it?

Go to the Option Value Manager ...

You have added Option Values ... if you edit them, are they using the Option Name that you added?

Go to the Attributes Controller ... find the Product you want to add an Attribute to ...

From the Option Name list, pick your Option Name ...

From the Option Value list, pick your Option Value ... what "exactly" do you see on this Option Value that you want to add?

    Can you add it?

    Hi Ajey
thank you so much for your reply.

I have to tell what has happened:
First of all, I think I was trying to insert twice as I "thought" I had to hit insert right at the bottom of the attributes screen as well (as everything was not displaying properly on my zencart product page, even though the "preview" within the controller was correct)...perhaps that's why I had the error?

Anyhoo - I was looking at my products page, with the drop down box just "sitting there" by itself....ran my mouse around the area.....guess what? the text surrounding the dropdown box is WHITE!!! so, yay, not going crazy. No idea WHY it is white, but as I purchased my template, I'm off to email them now....

Again, thank you so much for your reply..I really appreciate your post
(After 4 days of being stuck on "attributes 101" I am so happy that I can move forward)

I had the same error message, and found out why.

    1. select Option Name and Option Value
    2. Complete the link to downloads at the bottom
    3. Click "insert"

There are 2 "Insert" buttons and if you first press the one in step 1 and then press the button for step 2 then you get the error message.

The buttons have the same purpose ... to make the INSERT ... they are both there so that when your screen is at the top or bottom you can get to them easier than scrolling, scrolling, scrolling ... keep those screens a scrollin' ...

Thanks for the explination of how this can happen ...
