Shopping Cart has disappeared from sidebox

Hi all,

This is my first time posting so I hope I'm in the right spot, forgive me if I'm not. And I've also searched extensively (here and google) for the answer, so if it's obvious, again forgive me I do manage to sort most things out myself, but on this one I'm completely stumped!!
So, I was trying to change the button that shows on the sidebox shopping cart that says 'send gift certificate'. I spent half the night searching for how to do it and finally came across 'button names' in order to change the extension from gif to jpg (for the new button that I'd uploaded). So I changed it and the whole shopping cart disappeared from the sidebox, changed it back and it still won't show. I've been coming and going from a lot of files tonight trying to work out how to do this and I'm afraid I've changed something without realising it. I have my override files and don't think I've accidently changed anything I shouldn't have. I always have a copy of the file and then check the site in case I do stuff something, just don't know what or how I stuffed this!?!?!? I'm completely confused!?!?!?!?

What's your setting in Admin/Configuration/Layout Settings/Shopping Cart Box Status?

Thanks for your response TShooters.

The shopping cart is on, the same as it was when it worked.
Left/Right column status: ON
Location: RIGHT
Left/Right sort order: 10
Single Column sort order: 0
Single Column status: ON

I was under the impression that you either used Left/Right column status or Single Column status, not both. But when I was setting it up the first time it wouldn't show without both being on. I've tried playing around with those settings and no combination seems to make any difference

HI! izzysmum!

You're in Admin/Tools/Layout Boxes Controller.

Look all the way to the left in Admin to Configuration. Scroll
down to Layout Settings and click on it. About the 10th down
will be Shopping Cart Status. A setting of 0 means always on.
A setting of 1 means the shopping cart is only shown when
something is in it.

Also, the Layout Boxes Controller's "Single Column" settings should be ignored - they don't currently have any function except for the search header box.

Oops sorry... I'm was starting to lose my mind and didn't read your post properly!
Thanks so much! It was set to 1, however there was something in my shopping cart so it should have been showing but somehow what was in the cart has now disappeared.... silly mistake... lesson learned... when things don't make sense get some sleep!!! Will sort out the disappearing products from the shopping cart another day!
