change display of products ; 3 in a row

Default the products on the products page are displayed one on a row, vertically down . The display in the 'new products' are different.
There I have 3 products in a row ,so much more on the same space.
Now I'd like to have my products on the products page ,3 products in a row ,like the new products.
Can this be done in the Admin or do I have to change it in the code?

Install the Column Grid mod from Downloads. (Oops, the button is called "Free Add Ons" now.)

I did install a grid in in the 'new products part. But it's not that what I was aiming I would like to change the display of the my categories pages.
Right now all products are displayed one under an other, so vertically down. What I would like is that my products would display rather one next to one other. So for example 3 in a row and so column after coumn.
In the way that the 'new articles are displayed by default.

Column Grid works only on the product listing page (the "category page"). You need that for what you want.

I did put a dotted grid in the new products section, but my products on the categories pages are still displayed one under another, so one per row.

The "dotted grid" is not the Column Grid mod. Look in Downloads: Column Layout Grid for Product Listing.

What you have is Column Divider Pro.

i have the 'column layout grid' mod installed (even upgraded to the new one) but no luck, i can add 100 categories and they will all list straight down in one column.

i can also change the stylesheet to make them justify differently, no help. i edited the php's and managed to move them within the same column - useless.

i need to make three columns left to right and have 1 category display in each column - just like the products do as the first posts by 'lileven23' state.

Your column grid mod is working fine on product listing pages; it will not affect the categories/subcategories display in any way, because that is a different animal.

Try admin > Configuration > Maximum Values > Categories To List Per Row.

sadly, it was already set for 3 per row and moving that up and down... up = no change, 2 per row - no change, 1 per row -centered them perfectly but still not what i'm looking for.
