PayFlow Pro - why won't it work ?

I actually believe there is something wrong with the code that writes the order details into the table. As i have setup another store in atest environment and the live one is not behaving the same way. I'll try another install on the live environment and see if i can replicate it.

I have installed a new zencart store, on the same live server, new database, installed the paylow 1.3.8 module and changed the url in the php module for paypal rather than verisign.
This works. i get a proper log for action and curl and get an entry in the orders database and a transaction in paypal manager.

So i know the fault is in the original setup somewhere. If i have a corrupted php file in the payment or ordering area, what's the best way to go about finding it ?
