Understanding the login process

Hello,

I would like to use my existing Zen Cart database to provide authentication for another area of my web site. In other words, I would like my users to have a single Zen Cart account that allows them to access the Store as well as a separate Members' Area. I think this should be easy to do, but I am getting lost in all the files and directories. I have found a smattering of files that reference the login process, but nothing that seems to be the real guts. Can anybody give me a quick overview of the login process? I think I could figure this out if I had all the pieces laid out.

This is called a 'bridge'. The only operational one I'm aware of is for phpBB2.

Search for phpBB3 for a thread that explains how to connect Zencart and that version of phpBB. Might be some ideas for you in his code.

Thank you for the information. That has some intriguing possibilities, but my initial reaction is that it is probably more than I need. All I really want to do is make a distinct login page that checks the e-mail address and password in Zen Cart and then sets a session variable to grant access to the Members' Area.
