    help question html template structure

    Hi Guys,

I've just install Zen Cart couple of days ago and I would like to say – “I am quite quite impressed!” So far everything looks absolutely perfect comparing it with any other E-Commerce solutions.
The reason why I’m posting this topic is because I have some difficulties using the template system.
One of them is – CSS . I'm not quite familiar with CSS so I was wondering is there a default, or basic template structure created in HTML? It will be much easier for me to integrate my design...
Therefore, any assistance or information will be appreciated :)

    Regards,
    baskata

    The simple answer is No.

Zen Cart is php driven which means the html is created on the fly from various parameters and database contents.

CSS isn't all that hard to learn. W3Schools is a great resource.

Again, an html template would be useless for Zen Cart, but you can take a look at the free templates available for Zen Cart at http://(sorry, site offline)/.

Useless because Zen Cart isn't html. It's php which generates html.

Well, yes :) We all know that this is a php based script, however all are templates writen in CSS so all I wanted is those templates writen in HTML :)
Basically, it's not useless, it's up to the end user to choose - me preffer HTML, you - preffer XHTML/CSS right ?

You missed the point. The template system is a collection of php files that generates the xhtml on the fly. The css (stylesheet) goes hand in hand with the template system to control positioning, color, etc of the elements created by the php files based on their class, and ids. There is NOT a template, such as you may be familiar with. If you are in a hurry, either the commercial help wanted or another solution maybe for you. When you have more time you should give the Template system of Zen Cart a try, I think that it is a flexible enough for most to use, though some might disagree with me on that (newbies). Most all will tell you that Zen Cart is not a bolt on checkout system for your already made up html site. It is designed to take over the functions of the html pages. You can however mix static html pages and zen-cart, to a degree, as long as they stay under the same domain, for session purposes.

I would say that both, baskata & afo are correct.

Having designed & corrected many Templates, Zen Cart or otherwise and IMHO, it is always best to create your Template as a stand alone HTML page. This includes your CSS, JavaScript or whatever else you want to use. This also allows one to Validate their code and know that everything is correct. From there you can run it as HTML or code it to be used within any script, be it PHP, Perl, ASP, whatever.
