problem with a new install-admin

I just did a new install on my server. All went well. At end of install I went right into store , no problem. put url to admin in address bar, admin login came up, put in password, it wold not go into the back of the store. Had new pass word sent to email twice that doesn't work. I had changed the admin folder name after the install and changed all the appropriate files to my new admin name. I have double checked them. still cant get in. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I have a brand-new install, too. My problem was similar, but the opposite: demo store, no admin.

What worked for me was to go to my hosting server's CPanel and look at the error messages, plus go into my configure.php file and look for how the paths concatenate because that was one thing I noticed in the error messages (after I fixed such noob errors as telling ZenCart that my type of server was MySQL instead of mysql and the like). I also found this
and this very useful.

In my case, I have a top domain, am installing on a subdomain in a directory under the subdomain.

With this example: HTTP_SERVER plus DIR_WS_ADMIN in mind, I found I had
http://domainname (which points to domainfilefolder) plus
public_html/domainfilefolder/storename/admin
for the admin path, which concatenated to domainname/domainfilefolder/domainfilefolder/storename/admin, obviously breaking functionality.

I also looked at all the file perms and turned just about everything on to 777 for getting installed. That goes back to 744 a.s.a.p., but I had to get it running first.

Thanks for the information. I will check into all of that (very helpful) It my be the problem is the server. it has some php setting that are listed in the zen cart install instructions that are problematic. It said to expect 500 server errors and that's what I am getting. It is a friends leased server and it is free to me, but not much good if zen cart doesn't work.
