Default Am I (trying to) override the override?

    Hi
I am really getting myself confused with the override system.
Have read everything, set up folders as per chart, etc,

but - is not working for me.

I am using a (purchased) template called (say) template_xyz.

I have created a heap of override folders named (say) My_Template. (Because this was what I assumed that you do) This is where I have been saving modified files to. But the changes do not show up.

so.........should I be calling all the o'ride folders template_xyz? Is this why it's not working?

sorry, but I am really getting myself muddled - I'm even starting to dream about override folders!!

I really hope I can get my head around this

    Any help, much appreciated :)

Did you select the new template in Admin - Tools - Template Selection?

    Hi Stevesh

Oops - sorry probably didn't explain my self properly...

I uploaded "purchased" template, selected it via admin, started playing with it. All good. Then I discovered (via forums) that it's important to set up override folders .... and interpreted that you can name the folders what you want. (So I did) I guess my initial understanding was that you overridde even the changes you make in new templates. - that was the reason for the unique folder's name.

My question is - should the override folders be called the same as the name of the template "in use" - in my case the name of my purchased one. Because, I found that my overrides don't register in my case (with override folders named differently).

But then again, maybe I'm totally on the wrong track...

    Sorry for the confusion

Yes, your template overrides should all bear the same name as the active template or they will not be recognized.

    yay
    thank you so much, kuroi!!!
You don't realise how much that has helped me in getting my head around this concept (relief, relief, relief)

(hopefully I'll stop dreaming of override folders now)

I think that the penny was already dropping. I just confirmed that it was dropping in the right place.

Zen Cart can appear overwhelming and frustrating at first, but when it starts to come together, it makes a lot more sense.
