products on main page

ok im trying to have it laid out in this fashion

in the blank area of main page i would like to have three catagories examples

Men

Pic

Pic

Pic

and have the pics be from each catagory.
is there a simply way of doing this or do i need to make some
kind of custom html/ php set up in the define edit area of admin?
if i do need to make a custom layout any suggestions on code for this or at least a start that i could work with. Thanks

Note the catagories can go this way as well.

Ok here's a better way to ask my question.

when you click on a catagory image on the left it takes you to that catagory. on this page there will be the products list and below New Products For this catagory.

On my main page www.yourpagetest.com youll see the headings i have marked Mens/Girls/New i want to take the New Products From Each catagory and post them under the right Heading. in a vertical way.
Making radom images of New Products for those Catagories.
I know its possible i just need some direction to find the code that is showing the New Product Images in each catagory. and how to make them do this automatic. like on the catagory pages them selfs.

i found some code but it makes me put the img src witch makes it only show that image instead of radom. Thanks for you input in advance. Shwag
