Right Column Banner Will Not Display

Hi, Everyone,

I have tried many things to assist my customer to activate some new banner side boxes for the right side column of the web site design. I admit I am a novice in banner management but we went through the tutorials and modified every setting we can find in the admin. The banners simple do not show. The right column is just blank. I can turn on other layout boxes, such as the keyword search box for example, and it shows without problem.

Anyone have any advice on what I should test or were I should look?

I have hit a road block on how to get these banners to show up.
We even tried creating a new Banner Group called RightBanners and starting over. We tried assigning it to all-banners and sideboxbanners...I checked that the banner side box php files are in the /modules/sideboxes directory. Not sure what else to try.

K- you have uploaded the banners, created the group, assigned the banners to the group, assigned the group to the boxes in the Admin> Confguration> Layout Settings and turned the box(es) on and nothing happens?

BTW- isn't the header a bit wide? 1125px

Yes, your assumption is correct. I will spell out some of the settings below so you have a clearer picture.

In regards to the header graphics, I can't comment much. The site owner does her own graphics and layout and that is her preference. Unless you were insinuating that the long header might have some affect on our right column situation?

Under Banner Manager:
Banner group is called: RightBanners
There is a banner saved called Kit Logo (a small image) with group RightBanners and it is turned to on (green) status, sort order 3, expires at 35000 impressions, no dates specified.
The stats are showing over 7000 impressions although we never see it appear.
I also tried entering some basic html and text instead of an image and no cigar.

Under Layout Settings:
Side Box banner_box is assigned to RightBanners; Side Box banner_box_all is assigned to RightBanners.

Under Layout Boxes Controller:
sideboxes/banner_box_all says:
Box Name: banner_box_all.php
Left/Right Column Status: ON
Location: (Single Column ignores this setting) RIGHT
Left/Right Column Sort Order: 2
Single Column Sort Order: 2
Single Column Status: ON

Could I be missing something?

( my comment about the header was that you have to have a 1200 pixel wide screen or else you have a horizontal scroll - not user friendly )

Side note: I will make another comment to the site owner about the extra wide site width. I agree it is a bit excessive but she has her vision about what she wants to include in that space.

Sorry to be a "bumper", but my client is getting frustrated with this problem and I am stumped.
I have tried starting over from scratch with a new banner group, new banner item, assigning that new banner group to my right sidebox area.
It just will NOT show. The right column is always blank.

If I turn on another box like the search box for the right column, it shows fine.
This tells me it is not a silly stylesheet prob or an overlap of the right column onto sideboxes.
I am not banner expert enough to determine the cause of this.

If anyone can just point me to some files or settings to review, I would appreciate it.

What Banner Group do you have that saved to?

What setting in the Configuration ... Layout Settings .... do you have that Banner Group defined in?

What settings, when you go to the Banner Manager, do you have filled in and with what?

Is the icon on the banner green, in the Banner Manager?

Yes, I have my banner group RightBanners defined under Side Box banner_box and Side Box banner_box_all

There is a banner called Kit Logo with the image I linked in my above post.
It is assigned to the group RightBanners.
It is showing 25148 displays and 0 clicks. (I have never actually seen it display, weird.)

Is the icon on the banner green, in the Banner Manager?
Yes it is green (on).

BTW - I also tried removing the HTML and only using image (as suggested) and still no luck.

That great big banner you have would never fit in a sidebox ... and I see something like it on the page ... so I am a tad confused on the problem with this ...

You said the image name is Kit Logo ... what is the full path to the real banner? Does it come up in your browser?

Hooray! We have resolved this issue. Thank you to Ajeh for guiding us in the right direction - the custom template.

After some digging through all the files, we realized the file tpl_box_default_right.php was blank. We believe it may have been corrupted during an FTP transfer. So we restored this file from the default templates and banners are now displaying properly.
