    Default frustrated by everything

http://www.flyboyaccessories.com/store/ is the URL for my pathetic store.

    1) So far, I can't seem to get product photos to appear at all.

    2) Product names appear twice in many places, I suppose that is associated with the missing photos somehow.

    3) I don't want the number of "units in stock" to appear on the product listing page. I set several options to "false" on the stock page, but the "units in stock" still appears on the product page.

    4) I still haven't figured out why my bottom center box image won't show. I've got the proper banner box turned on, as far as I can tell as it's the only one turned on and the image text is in the right place.

The banner title (text only) shows up in the proper spot, but the image isn't there.

I did have the image at one time, so I must have screwed something up and I can't seem to figure out what!

    5) I can't wait to see what I can screw up tomorrow. I bought the book, read read FAQs until I can't see, but the answers elude me. I'm going home to drink until I pass out now. I hope someone takes pity on this newbie and directs me to somewhere that I can find a few answers before I lose my mind completely. I'd really like to get this store up and running, but I just am not seeing the big picture here somehow.

In my other life, I know aviation. People actually call ME for help and I've participated in online forums like this for years. Now, I'm asking for this group to lend me a hand.

    Thanks in advance.

First - Breathe in, breathe out.

Next - It is okay to be totally baffled at this moment, clarity will come. I'm sure the first time someone talked about the Bernoulli Effect it was confusing.

Third - We are here to help. Take it one step at a time.

Forth - Do not give up. :)

Ah, breathing in, breathing out.... hmmm, still no clarity. But I do understand the Bernoulli effect quite well. Too bad it won't power my shopping cart!

I understand that open source stuff is a bit unfettered, but surely I am overlooking an easy spot to find the knowledge I seek. I mean, if this is a product intended for casual, but competent, computer users to set up shop with, there must be a guide, or book, or something to transfer knowledge that I am overlooking.

I've had a simple PayPal based website for years, and sold stuff on Ebay for years too. I don't think I'd have attempted this had I known how time comsuming it would be.

I was really hoping to step up to the next level and be able to manage the products, ship, etc. more easily. But I'm not seeing any light at the end of the tunnel.

So, am I overlooking the guidebook that tells how to find where things need to go?

    <img src="images//public_html/store/images/medium/new TW.JPG"

Those calls for the images are way off....
if you have put the images in the images folder than you should only need the image file name and which folder it is in when entering products.....

That filename looks better... but they still don't show up. ?

BTW, I have Go Koon Hoek's book. I wouldn't have made it anywhere without it. I wish it had a bunch more pages on the overrides and just simply how to find things.

Take the spaces out of the names too - linux doesn't like spaces in filenames.

never mind (the answer I was about to give is already there). edit: I only think it's the browser that does not like the spaces.

If the images still won't display, you may want to check with your web host whether it is the .htaccess file settings that are the cause of the problems. Some folks have also reported problems with image display after fiddling with the image hotlinking feature in their host's control panel.

For the units in stock problem, try this: Go to Catalog > Product Types in your admin and click the edit layout button for the Product-General product type. Set the Show Quantity in Stock field to false.

That suggestion cured the "units in stock" problem. I had completely missed that entire edit layout page about 50 times. It's easy to not see what's right in front of you sometimes. THANKS.

I got rid of the spaces in my filenames, but still couldn't get the images to appear, however....

...the comment about the .htaccess file made me look at my /images directory. There was an .htaccess file in there. When I removed it, the images magically appeared! YAY!http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/images/smilies/clap.gif

So, is there supposed to be an .htaccess file in that directory? Is it OK to leave it out?

Thanks very much to all those who helped me get past these bumps. I was pulling my hair out.
