I have found an answers to my query and tried to edit or want to turn off weight but still the same:
Your Shopping Cart Contents

Total Items: 1 Weight: 2.5lbs Amount: $428.07

What about under admin -> catalog -> product type -> display weight?

You mean admin -> catalog -> product type -> product general ->edit layout -> show weight , set to 0. I have done that but no effect.

My total amount still shows when I shut off the weight, so I can't help on that front, but I just wanted to thank you for posting the links to the other threads. Very helpful.

Did you try the setting in Configuration ... Layout Settings ...

Shopping Cart - Show Totals
Show Totals Above Shopping Cart?
0= off
1= on: Items Weight Amount
2= on: Items Weight Amount, but no weight when 0
3= on: Items Amount
