Adding new db fields

In general, can I add fields to the mysql tables for my own use?

Would Zen cart choke on that, or can I add a field here or there without shooting myself in the foot?

Specifically, I am populating some 'products' tables myself and want to be able to store the original retail price of each item AND my cost for each item. Then I'll work out some reports in the future...

Zen Cart only cares about its own fields and tables ...

As long as anything that would address those tables and new fields do not conflict with the original code, you are fine ...

You can adapt any insert, update, etc. to manage the new fields and tables in your code that uses them and Zen Cart will run fine ...

NOTE: be sure to save all original code and custom code for upgrades in the future to make comparisons easier ...
