Lots of Seemingly Unnecessary Images in the images directory tree?

I am trying to do some cleanup in my ZenCart installation (to be able to tell the forest from the trees).

I found lots of seemingly snnecessary images in the images directory tree. For example:

images/matrox
images/microsoft
images/hewlett_packard
images/sierra

Can I safely delete these directories? Without loosing key functionality or having adverse effect?

If not, how can I tell which images (or subdirectories) are safe to delete and which are not?

Most, if not all of the images in the images directory are included for the installation of the demo version of Zen Cart.

So Yes, if you don't have the Zen Cart demo set up then you can delete the images as necessary.

It's not been updated for v1.3.8a, but it will remove most of the demo files from your Zen Cart installation.
