how update database properly? -Google Analytics

Hi

I'd like to install the Google analytics module I found here on the forums.
In the installation guide there is something that I don't quite understand as still newbie.
It says I have to update my database, but I don't now how to do this best.

Do I have to import the SQL file in My PhpAdmin and so ad it to my database? Or Do I only have to link it via install SQL patches in the admin?
Here is the official explanation:

"4. If this is a BRAND NEW install, you will need to update your database with the googleanalytics.sql file.
If you are upgrading (from the oldest 1.0 version), you will need to use the SQL file that is called googleanalytics-UPGRADE.sql
In your site admin go to Tools->Install Sql Patches and apply the googleanalytics.sql patch included"

I solved it by adding the SQL file via SQL patch files
