Change layout of "new products" on main page

I did a quick search but was unable to find a solution. I have "New Products" enabled, and they display on my main page appropriately (3 items per row, 2 rows). I would however like to change the layout.

If I click on the "New Products" sidebox hyperlink, my new products are displayed on the main page, 1 item per row with description and "buy now" button. Is there a way to set this up so my new products are listed in this way by default under "New Products" on the main page?

This is actually 2 layouts -

One is "New Products" and the other(main page) is "Whats New"

Some of what you seek can be altered in the admin but if you seek exactly the same display....look for a post by "yellow1912" on how to change listing styles
