products + attributes in cart affecting page load time

I know the database issues are going to be addressed in ZC v1.4 but I wanted to mention my problems here. When I add a product to the shopping cart with a lot of attributes it introduces a TON of queries to each page and if you add enough products with attributes it eventually times out and won't allow you to even make it through the checkout process.

I've taken the recommendations in the FAQ for limiting the number of queries and have also turned off almost every sidebox and featured product box possible to see if it helps but it is very obvious that it slows down considerably when you add products with lots of attributes.

I am on a shared DreamHost server and I understand it may not offer the proper MySQL configuration or guaranteed resource allocation levels but I want to at least try to work with it because this site is storing large files for download and needs plenty of storage space and I can't find a certified ZC host that offers that same level of storage or greater.

Any thoughts on the attribute query issue before I try moving the site to a ZenCart certified host or should I wait it out for the 1.4 update and see if that helps? Dev team, any idea when that release is coming?

If you comment out the info about the shopping cart totals in the header and in the top of the shopping cart, how much does this save you?

NOTE: when testing, be sure you are commenting out where the information is gathered/prepared and not just where the results are displayed ...
