    Default Greeting Card Customization

    Hello,

Another question. Am working to set up a Greeting card site, with customized text capabilities. Meaning a customer can select a card, submit an image, and be able to submit up to 60 characters of text.

This means being able to query for text once the customer selects a card. I see a way of doing this during the checkout procedure, and it is doable, but a tad cumbersome.

Is there a way to query for a file upload, and for text entry, before one gets to the checkout set of screens?

And more specifically, I have not quite figured out how to query for a file upload (of an image) tho that appears to be a function of assigning attributes.

Can anyone point to a tutorial, an FAQ, or something may shed light on the above? Would be much appreciated.

A second question here would be... if I create a Text attribute, when is this Text Attribute queried for? Meaning, it appears to prompt a client for some text entry, but when does this occur? At checkout, or before checkout?

I have not been able to enable this behavior yet so am mucking around trying to figure out when Text Attribute comes into play.

Let me try another way of framing this. Any input would be most helpful. I can cobble together a working framework, but, experienced people may have a way of doing this:

I have a photo. It can sell as a print, or it can go into a greeting card.

Prints are easy to articulate. A dropdown with print sizes, easy.

Greeting Cards that come from the same photo. There are multiple greeting card types.

Question is, how can one articulate print sizes for sale, or greeting cards, in the same product description? One can end up with a LONG dropdown list, and I can display the Greeting Cards via a popup window where they could view, then select in the dropdown.

Is there a way to view a photo as a product, then select EITHER Prints OR Greeting Cards, and be dropped into the sub choices based on one or the other genre?

Any help would be most, helpful.

Do a file upload attribute and text entry attribute.

You really need to get the zen cart book...

Basically what you will do is enter the product (in your case the picture?). Add option names (text and file upload). Then assign those attributes to the product.

    Thank you for the response.

What I am trying to do ZenCart can't do yet. Which are conditional statements. We have a photo.

If the photo is to be printed, go to sub menu A

If the photo is destined to be a Greeting Card, go to sub menu B which has card choices and Text entry boxes

What I am having to do is list all choices under the Product, including Greeting Cards and a text box for the custom entry, so everything is on one screen. This will work, but ideally, being able to do conditional statements which go to a sub menu with supporting attributes based on which direct one went, would be the ticket.

Mebbe someday. But for the moment, I believe I have solved it. Only hope when I get the attributes entered that the Product screen dosn't look too busy.

tx very much for your reply. Was hoping someone would magically say "why yes", conditional statements actually do work and you just didn't see it yet. Oh well... still ya gots to luvs ZenCart. Awsome application and community.

Glad you found a work around. I just finished setting up a greeting card store for someone...luckily we did not have any "conditional" needs. My hope is that one day a person can type what they want and it shows up ON the greeting card.

Yes, the zen cart community is awesome. I have learned so much in these forums. Good luck!

Ahhhhhh, that is a 'next' wish thing. Have the image show up *in* a greeting card. That would be the berries. My client keeps asking me for this possibility and I say sure, as long as you have a budget of say, NASA. Well, that's a little hysterical... but I just look at him and say, someday.

The ZenCart universe is very cool.
