    Default Email Server Needed?

This question will probably be laughable to some but here goes. I have a local Linux server tied into my local/home Windows domain. I am doing the development with Zen Cart on the Linux server. So here's the question: Do I need to set up a mail server (something like Postfix) on the Linux server so that Zen Cart can send emails, forms, etc.? I'll send the emails to one of my other email accounts on my ISP. I'm obviously a Linux newbie.

My outgoing mail from my local/home network goes out through my ISP's authenticated SMTP server. Can I just set up Zen Cart's email and it will work without having something on the Linux server?

    Thanks in advance!

You did not state what flavor of linux you have???
Most that are distributions for a server include a mail app

You will need one to test and I am assuming that this is only for testing?
Usually easier to just upload to a host for final testing

Yes, you need to install a Mail program of some sort as it is one of the Services one runs on a Server, same as Apache, PHP, mySQL, etc.

Thanks, you led me down the right path. I was struggling because the website forms ran into authentication problems. I could see the messages leaving but the RCPT TO showed an error. If it helps anyone else, this is what I did based upon the confirmation from Kobra and Website Rob. Seems simple once I thought about it.

To eliminate the mail server itself, I
    1. Installed an email client on the server (Ubuntu Linux) and configured it to work with my ISP's authenticated SMTP.
    2. Sent an email to one of my other email addresses - and it worked.
    3. That means that I did set up Postfix correctly. So the mail server on my Linux box is okay.

Problem has to be in how I have Zen Cart set up. Read through the posts and then had that "I couldn't miss anything so obvious moment, could I?"

I checked the e-mail setup. It was still set to PHP. I changed it so SMTPAUTH. Everything works now.
