Contact Us Page Not Redirecting

Hi, I am working on my zen cart site and have searched the forums to no avail.We are running into similar problems as others w/ regard to contact_us form behavior, the zen_redirect function is not returning the redirected page. We are getting a blank page that appears to be hanging.

The url used in the redirect has ampersands in it that might be subject to apache mod_rewrite rules as other postings have suggested.

How have others solved this ?

what changes to apache mod_rewrite rules worked?

Would writing a custom page be easier?

pros/cons of custom page vs mod_rewrite rules ?

It is about 75% complete and needing more CSS tweaking and images added so please remember it is a work in progress....

My website is currently only locally on my computer

Database: MySQL 5.0.51a
Database Host: localhost (127.0.0.1)
PHP Version: 5.2.5 (Zend: 2.2.0)
HTTP Server: Apache/2.2.8 (Win32) DAV/2 mod_ssl/2.2.8 OpenSSL/0.9.8g mod_autoindex_color PHP/5.2.5

Yes, we have it set up and configured on both the local and live sites. The contact us form works. I receive the mail in Thunderbird on my local site, but the page hangs. It seems all of the forms that came with zen cart are doing the same thing they work but they hang.
