Products page not displaying anything!

I'm a newbie but have been able to work out everything including template override BUT - I have categories with a handful of products below. No subcategories. From the categories page (products listed below) , if I click on the product to go to product page with details, etc. a page comes up with only the breadcrumbs on it and a shell. Nothing about adding to cart, no pic of the item. I cannot figure out what I have wrong. Please help. My products seem to be set up correctly. Simple store. maybe 50 products total.

sorry - I should have given more info -I'm using 1.3.8 - I'd appreciate any help - I bought the book which has been invaluable for setting up this store - but this 1 item......

Switch to the classic template and see if you then see your products
if so then this is a template issue

Thanks for that tip - I was banging my head. You were right, it then showed. now I have to figure out how to get my money back for that template.
