There seems to be several versions of easy populate. Easy populate osc, easy populate 1.2.x and easy populate pro....
The list goes on. What works well with zencat 1.3.8 and is free? Link please?

OSC probably does not work well, pro is not free ^_^

The version at Modhole (Langer's site) is 1.2.5.4
The one in this forum's Free Add-ons is 1.2.5.5
I use 1.2.5.5 for ZC1.3.8a and so far have not experienced problems with it.
So use the 1.2.5.5 version in our free add-ons section.
