Default Problems with HTTPS & Apache

    Hi there,

my site doesnt seem to be loading up correctly. there seems to be an issue with the css layout & ssl. this is an error which has occured over the past 2days. it has been working fine for a long time!!

i have the site set to be viewed constantly over ssl, however what im finding is that none of the links are working! the index page is opening, but not displaying correctly. when i type a link in, removing the S in https it still doesnt let me through. just keep getting "Cannot Disply Page". i cant even get into the admin section with or without ssl!!!

i have spoke to the provider of the ssl and they seem to think that there has been a setting changed in apache.

i am clueless as to what has been changed as i have not touched anything!!

need to get this issue sorted asap!!!! Please Help!

When you say that you have set the site to be viewed constantly in SSL, do you mean you have the HTTP and HTTPS settings in your configure.php files, both set to HTTPS ?

This is not necessary. Zencart will invoke SSL when necessary, so why don't you set the HTTP and HTTPS as they are meant to be?

yes i have. i wanted the admin and the site to be viewed completely over the ssl.

the idea was to direct customers from a non secure page straight through to the site, which was completly over ssl. whilst all the information in the admin was viewed over ssl aswell.

by changing the settings back to normal, will it fix the problem as the site was functioning correctly with the new settings up until a couple of days?

Put the settings back to HTTP and HTTPS, as they ought to be.

There is NO NEED to invoke HTTPS all the way through. You do yourself no favours with SEO and site speed by invoking HTTPS all the way through.

Ask your host what they changed recently.
Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

My host had a few problems not too long ago, where all my sites we're down!

written below is the email i recieved...could this be related to my issue?

"We encountered several hours of downtime due to a critical hardware issue. The hardware problem was related to failure of the RAID controller along with one of the hard drives in the RAID array. We managed to replace one of the hard drives in hope the RAID array will rebuild itself without any errors but unfortunately this did not happen and as a result the /root and /var partitions were unusable. We had to use our backup server and made a fresh OS installation after that we began with the account restoration. We managed to preserve the /home partition which sped up the process but there were still many accounts to be restored, and the restoration consumed most of the time spent on resolving the issue."

all my sites work correctly other than the one at topic, however none of the other sites are running zen-cart or anything similar!!

It most definitely is related to your problem.

Regardless if your SSL Cert was Shared or Dedicated, all Certs will have to be reinstalled. If you have a Dedicated one then your Hoster will need some information from you. Best to contact them for faster resolution.

    I see,

well i have changed the settings in the config files back to how they "should be". the site is now managing to display content in http mode, however when i want to cross over to ssl it still wont let me through. i am also unable to gain access to the admin section with or without ssl!!

the issue with the admin, would this be affected from the downtime my host had or is this a script issue? as regards to the ssl i will promptly get intouch with my host!! many thanks!

No sense using SSL for your site if no SSL is setup.

"i am also unable to gain access to the admin section with or without ssl!!"

Would need to be specific about the problem; do you get a blank page, some kind of error msg. or ... ?
